Thanks to Kickstarter, Wasteland 2 can develop with much more financing than anticipated.

Developer: InXile Entertainment, Obsidian Entertainment
Publisher: InXile Entertainment
Release Date: October 2013
Platform(s): Mac, Windows
Genre: RPG

On March 13, 2012 Wasteland 2 set their fundraising goal at $900,000. This was the largest target for any Kickstarter project to date. Within the first 24 hours, contributions totaled nearly $600,000. So it’s no surprise that they shattered their goal at just short of $3 000 000 today with 61,290 backers.

Wasteland 2 is to be the sequel to the classic role-playing game, Wasteland. Players will be immersed in a dangerous, post-apocalyptic world. Every decision will have a cause and effect.

The game will also have a strong storyline. With co-creator of Wasteland and science fiction/fantasy author, Michael Stackpole (Star Wars, Battletech) and co-creator of Fallout, Jason Anderson on board, it looks promising.

Wasteland 2 is expected to have an old-school feel and according to Brian Fargo (Wasteland designer, Wasteland 2 director) it will be a turn-based, top down, party-based, RPG. It will be available on Windows and Mac and is expected to launch in October 2013.

It was the availability of fan funding, offered through Kickstarter and digital distribution that made Wasteland 2 a reality.
