True Blood Episode 4.11: Soul of Fire

This episode of True Blood reaches a fiery crescendo as showdowns happen at both the Moon Goddess Emporium and Alcide’s (Joe Manganiello) house.

Jason (Ryan Kwanten) is alone outside the Moon Goddess Emporium, when Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll), Bill (Stephen Moyer), Pam (Kristin Bauer) and Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) arrive locked and loaded. He warns them that Sookie (Anna Paquin) is now trapped inside, so they need to find another way in.

Marnie/Antonia (Fiona Shaw) goes off the rails and innocently kills one of her former followers when she tries to leave. She then rationalizes the murder. Antonia (Paola Turbay) wants nothing to do with murdering innocents and tries to escape, so Marnie binds her spirit to her. Everybody stands around and gets a blow-by-blow description from Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) while she is doing it. Really, you all are just going to stand there and not do anything? While she was distracted, it would have been a great opportunity to attack her from all directions and interrupt her casting. Never mind, that would have been too easy!

Jesus (Kevin Alejandro) convinces Marnie that there is still a pulse and the girl can be saved, so he asks Lafayatte to help him move the body into the bathroom. His plan however, is to unbind Marnie and Antonia and the body is apparently the way to do it. Jesus goes about casting, cutting, burning candles and smearing blood in order for his spell to work.

Marnie looks into a pool of blood and doesn’t like that her future doesn’t look too bright. So she convinces her followers to form a circle and save themselves from the vampires. The spell actually pulls the vampires toward the barrier which is lethal to them. Jason communicates with Sookie and lets her know what is happening. She breaks the spell with fairy power. This angers Marnie who forces everyone up against a wall and builds a circle of fire around Sookie.

Luna (Janina Gavankar) rushes into the mechanic shop, while Sam and Alcide are trying to find out where Marcus (Daniel Buran) is. She says Marcus kidnapped their daughter and has left town. They have no idea where to look and luckily the little girl knows how to use the phone and calls Luna on her cell. They discover the call has come from Alcide’s house and head over there. Marcus is distracted in the bedroom with dirty Debbie (Brit Morgan), trying to convince her to leave town with him.

Sam challenges Marcus to a fight to avenge the death of his brother. He has Marcus down and beat so he does the next logical thing of turning his back on him with a loaded gun within arms reach. Marcus grabs the gun and tries to shoot Sam. Alcide intercedes, knocks Marcus down and crushes his windpipe. Then he turns to Debbie and tells her they are finished. Oh Alcide, I hate how doing the right thing gets you into trouble! Unfortunately, the rest of the pack won’t likely look at this as though it is a challenge and claim you to be Alpha. Instead, they’ll probably blame you for Marcus’s death and come after you. Nice job Debbie!

With a lot of blood, sweat and fire, Jesus manages to break the spell and unbind Marnie and Antonia. Marnie doesn’t realize what is happening until it is too late. This also breaks the protective barrier spell around the shop so Bill and Eric rush inside and kill Marnie with a gun and real bullets. I wonder if Bill practices his marksmanship, because he got her right between the eyes.

While Andy (Chris Bauer) is walking home, he has a strange encounter of the fairy kind. A light fills the area and a fairy named Maurella (Kristina Anapau) appears, then makes him promise to defend her before she has sex with him. Wait a minute, I thought the passage to fairy-town had been locked down. How did she manage to pop over? The rest of that encounter is just too strange to process!

Marnie, like every other tormented spirit sees Lafayette as a walking vessel for her to insert herself in and does so. Talk about anti-climatic for the role I thought Lafayette was going to play! I thought he would be right in there separating Marnie and Antonia. Instead he was whimpering and waiting for his next body invasion.

One more episode to go in this season. I wonder how much havoc Marnie will wreak while inhabiting Lafayette’s body before people figure it out.
