True Blood Episode 4.09: Let’s Get Out of Here

There’s a real surprise on this episode of True Blood; Tara (Rutina Wesley) got herself in trouble again. She realises Marnie/Antonia’s (Fiona Shaw) plan is too far out there and wants to get away, but she can’t. Now she will need saving, again.

Alcide (Joe Manganiello) proves once again that he’s a good wolf-man to have around. Jesus (Kevin Alejandro) helps exorcise the spirit from Lafayatte (Nelsan Ellis). Marnie/Antonia reveals her plans. Sam (Sam Trammell) and Luna (Janina Gavankar) finally hook up, for reals this time. Tommy (Marshall Allman) poses as Sam again. And the Jason (Ryan Kwanten), Hoyt (Jim Parrack) and Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) triangle gets even more complicated.

After breaking his promise to Debbie (Brit Morgan), that he will stay away from Sookie (Anna Paquin), Alcide rescues her from the chaos in the Bon Temps Cemetery. As he is running with her, Bill (Stephen Moyer) whisks her away, into her house and on the sofa in moments. He tries to give her blood, but she doesn’t immediately respond. Eventually she does and she assures the two she will be just fine. They leave so she can rest. This prompts a sexy dream that involves her, Bill and Eric (Alexander Skarsgard). During the dream she realised tha t she has feelings for both of them and will not let it be proclaimed to belong to either. I think Sookie is part cat as well as part fairy! How many times has she nearly died and been brought back now? I seem to have lost count.

Lafayette, possessed by the spirit of Mavis (Nondumiso Tembe) takes the baby back to Hoyt’s house and kicks him out at gunpoint. Evidently, that house belonged to Mavis when she was still alive so she thinks it is hers. Jason, Andy (Chris Bauer), Terry (Todd Lowe) and Arlene (Carrie Preston) converge on the house in an attempt to get the baby back. When that fails, Jesus is called in to try to talk some sense into Lafayette. Jesus immediately recognises that it is a possession and tries to reason with the spirit. They reach a deal where he promises to help her find where her baby is buried, so she will give up the gun and the baby. After they locate the body of both Mavis and her baby buried beside the house, Jesus says it is time for her to release Lafayette and let go. Lafayatte could really use some protection against body invaders! It seems so easy for them to jump inside of him at will.

Marnie/Antonia heads back to the Moon Goddess Emporium (I swear that is the same set from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) along with the survivors and Eric under her control. She reveals that her plan is to use Eric to kill the king. The majority of the group (including Tara) decide they no longer want to be a part of her plan so she locks them down, using magic. Sookie along with help from Debbie (who goes to Sookie to let her know she is scared of losing Alcide) goes to the shop and tries to free Eric. She is unable to get him out, but escapes with the information that Eric will try to kill Bill during the Festival of Tolerance. Sookie sets out to warn Bill.

After the unsettling visit from Marcus (Daniel Buran) Sam suggests that he, Luna and Emma (Chloe Noelle) take a camping trip. Luna agrees and the three take off. The time away prompts Luna to pay Sam a late night visit in his tent and the two finally get together.

Meanwhile, Tommy poses as Sam again and goes to the late-night meeting with Marcus and his pack. Alcide, has to pull the pack off of Tommy when they all jump him. After getting kicked in the rib several times, he changes back into himself. Alcide, going against Marcus’s wishes rushes Tommy out of there. I swear Alcide is the most honorable character on this show. He even went against his new pack when they so clearly outnumbered Tommy and did the right thing.

Hoyt packs up all Jessica’s belongings in a box and asks Jason to drop them off with Jessica. Jason makes a few excuses as to why he shouldn’t get involved and Hoyt insists. Yikes! So Jason gives in and drops off the box at the door. He tries to get away, but the allure is overwhelming. He and Jessica finally give into temptation and end up in the back of his truck.

It would make for a nifty change and some character growth if Tara actually figures out how to save herself and everybody else being held captive by Marnie/Antonia.
