Trailer Park – August 1st, 2012

trailer-aug012012b

Three new trailers for three different movies: Cloud Atlas, The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 and The Revenant. A though provoking movie that encompasses every genre of film that has ever been made, the animated version of a classic comic book and vigilante zombie horror comedy. Let the trailers begin!

Cloud Atlas

OK, the Wachowskis and Tom Twyker were joking about making the ultimate movie that was drama, sic-fi, romance, action, political,. Then they all came across David Mitchell’s novel, Cloud Atlas. And then they stopped joking and started rolling up their sleeves.

Cloud Atlas is six interlinked stories of the same two souls living their romance through six different times from the Napoleonic era to a far future. In each story one of the characters reads/watches/hears a story about the previous era’s incarnation of themselves and their lover. The cast list is crazy including Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Susan Sarandon, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant, James D’Arcy and Hugo Weaving because he is the Wachowski’s good luck charm. If you haven’t watched the near six-minute trailer then stop reading and get pumped for what could be the biggest movie since The Matrix.

The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1

Based on the ground breaking Frank Miller classic of the same name and following the well received Batman: Year One, the direct to video PG-13 animated adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns, Part 1 will be released on September 25th.

The trailer is dark both thematically and literally. Batman hasn’t been seen in about a decade and Gotham is in a slide. A new gang it creating violence just to draw out Batman. The aged Bruce Wayne teams up with a girl who takes on the mantle of Robin. The art is very reminiscent of Miller’s style rather than say Batman: The Animated Series. It should be noted this only covers the first half of the 4 part The Dark Knight Returns.

The Revenant

Horror-vigilante-comedy. Yes, read it again. Written and directed by Chris Wylde and sitting nicely between Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland, we get an undead soldier who returns to life and fights crime while dealing with his blood addiction. He’s staying with his slacker friend who is envious of his “super-powers” and wants to become a bloodsucking crime fighter also. And then their adventures become very problematic… and funny. The Revenant will have a limited release on August 24th.
