Pretty Little Liars – Episode 2.24: If These Dolls Could Talk

Everybody looks guilty on Pretty Little Liars as we get closer to the big reveal.

Spencer has a very vivid dream about Alison visiting her and telling her to stay focused on following the clues, but not getting caught up on the details. She also pops some pills on Spencer’s table and apologizes for not telling her about Jason. That would have practically made them family and Spencer definitely deserves a better sister than the one she currently has. Spencer hears a noise upstairs and shoves Alison’s bag underneath the sofa. She awakens to Melissa coming down the stairs and finding the side door wide open. Also, the pill bottle on the table is missing the lid. Interesting.

She later confides in Emily about what happened and Emily confesses that after they were locked in the barn, she was having dreams that felt as real as their current conversation in Spencer’s car. When Emily gets out of the car she gets an angry text from Maya about telling her parents that she heard from her.

While Hanna is getting ready for school, she gets a call from Caleb on the cell she isn’t supposed to have and Ashley is standing right there. She tries to deny it, but Ashley pulls the cell out of her bag and answers it. Hanna covers and says Mona gave it to her, because she needs to reach her 24/7. That’s when Mona shows up and Ashley returns her cell, telling her there are help lines available.

Toby catches Jenna removing the bandage from her eye and tells her she should wait to see the doctor. She’s too excited and wants it off now. So he sticks around while she takes it off. She doesn’t say anything, but starts to cry. He apologizes thinking she is crying because the operation was a failure. Oh hell no, those are tears of joy!

At school, Spencer shows the rest of the liars that she figured out what is up with the newspapers. There was correspondence between Alison and “A” for a while before Alison went missing and they had finally set up a date to meet. The location was the same street as the creepy doll store they discovered. They make a plan to check it out later and quickly stash the newspaper when Jenna comes over on Toby’s arm and asks if they are all there. He confirms, she dismisses him and sits down at the table. Hanna pops up and ask the question on everyone’s mind, “can you see now or what?” Great timing and delivery! Jenna tells the liars that Hanna’s choice to save her made her realize it is time to let go of the anger she had toward them all. She also mentions that she isn’t someone they need to fear. While the liars all still have their mouths hanging open, she gets up from the table and pulls out her cane. I can see how it would be to her advantage to pretend she is still blind.

Mona rushes over to show Hanna the text from “A” telling her that she needs to break up Hanna and Caleb. Hanna is still distracted by the conversation with Jenna and lets it slip that she thought she might have been “A”.

When Aria goes to leave a message for Ella to let her know she is heading out after school with Spencer, she sees a fax from Byron asking for a transcript of her grades and an application to an all girls boarding school. He is supposed to be out-of-town at a conference right now, but has apparently been extra busy.

The liars show up looking for the address Alison and “A” were supposed to meet at, but it doesn’t exist. It is right by the creepy doll store so they peek in the windows. Aria notices a little boy looking back at her. At the same time a woman shows up and they ask her questions. She denies knowing anything about the store and that they don’t get much business, mostly doll repair. However, she allows them to come inside while she possibly pretends to check her records. Meanwhile, the little boy starts telling them details about Alison and how she was scared of somebody. They show him a picture and he confirms it was her, except with dark hair. He tells them a man and a woman came in the store, how it is scary the way Alison died, etc. The woman shushes him several times and tells the group he sees things that happen in the future. Finally, she sends him upstairs.

After they leave, they discuss how the little kid knows details about Alison’s death that weren’t in the paper. Spencer finally admits that Melissa could be guilty and opens up about how much she hated Alison, the private detective and the fact that Jason is her step-brother.

Later, Spencer shows Melissa the video of her entering Alison’s room. Melissa asks if she stole it and tells Spencer that she has seen some videos the police would also find interesting about her and her friends.

Furious that her parents are going to send her to boarding school, Aria threatens to go public about her father, St. Byron’s affair with the grad student. Ella is equally upset and disappointed that Aria would go there. Let’s face it, she has a point that he is no better and needs to get off her back. Unfortunately, it is Ella who is caught in the hurtful crossfire. Later, Aria heads over to Ezra’s to tell him the news that she is no longer going to be sent away. He shares that he has been fired from his job. This brings the two closer together and they finally hook-up for the first time.

The rest of the liars hatch a plan to set Melissa up. Emily follows her in her car and then lets Mona and Caleb know where she is so they can park outside. This is the first time the two have been alone and Mona apologizes for what she did before to try to break up Caleb and Hanna. But she thinks they need to set aside their differences and help Hanna now. As soon as they see Melissa walking out of the print shop, they start making out. Within a few minutes Hanna receives a text from “A” about the two.

Convinced Melissa is “A” the liars rush back to Spencer’s house and pack all of Alison’s belongings into a box to take to the real police – not Officer Sketchy. Melissa walks in the house with Officer Sketchy and they kiss. So clearly they are now more than friends. He asks if Spencer bought the whole thing about there being incriminating evidence about her and her friends. Melissa tells him to relax, she’s been scaring Spencer for years. There is a knock at the door and the police are there to arrest Officer Sketchy for the murder of Alison. The liars creep down the stairs to see this happening and Melissa shoots Spencer a look when the two make eye contact.

Meanwhile, Jenna sits alone in her room and takes off her make-up. There is a fly buzzing around her mirror so she smashes it with one hit. I knew it, she can totally see! Officer Sketchy being arrested is all thanks to her. She gave Caleb page five of the missing autopsy report and pretended to now know what it is. He in turn took the paper to the police.

Even though Jenna, Melissa and Officer Sketchy all look guilty in the murder of Alison, I don’t see how any of them can also be “A”.
