New in theaters this week are The Dark Knight Rises and The Queen of Versailles.
The Dark Knight Rises
Run time: 164 min
Genre(s): Action, Adventure, Crime, Thriller
Director: Christopher Nolan
Stars: Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy
Synopsis: Eight years on, a new terrorist leader, Bane, overwhelms Gotham’s finest, and the Dark Knight resurfaces to protect a city that has branded him an enemy.
Five years after the great performance of Heath Ledger as the Joker, Christopher Nolan closes out his Batman Trilogy with Bane and Catwoman. Despite confusing trailers and a questionable choice for Catwoman expectations are high that Nolan will send the Caped Crusader off in style and eclipse The Dark Knight Returns and maybe even Joss Whedon’s Avengers. The SDCC buzz for Man of Steel shows he’s already steering the original superhero in the right direction. Let’s hope he send off the second one right. Please, please, please.
The Queen of Versailles
Run time: 100 min
Director: Lauren Greenfield
Stars: Jackie Siegel, David Siegel, Virginia Nebab
Synopsis: A documentary that follows a billionaire couple as they begin construction on a mansion inspired by Versailles. During the next two years, their empire, fueled by the real estate bubble and cheap money, falters due to the economic crisis.
Greenfield has been praised for making somewhat unsympathetic people and actually have everyday people feel for misfortunes that are not that connected to the masses. That said the potential reach for a documentary on billionaires building a mansion during the second great depression is probably short.
