As we approach the next season of True Blood, I think we can expect to see a lot of questions answered and loose ends tied up.
Here are a few things we will likely see during the fifth season.
First, Tara should be dead, dead. After being shot by Debbie at the end of season 4 with a shotgun, Tara wasn’t killed by supernatural means. Therefore she is permanently dead and she died without vampire blood in her system (unless someone slipped some in her drink when we weren’t looking), so she won’t be coming back as a vampire. The only way to see any more of her is if they bring her back as a ghost and Lafayette has some visitations.
Next, Russell Edgington has escaped his silver and concrete confines. He will be looking for retribution and will undoubtedly hunt down those who imprisoned him and make them pay in any way he can. He also has a taste for chaos and human blood so he will likely trying to kill as many humans as he possibly can and out-do his own personal body count.
Steve Newlin has come full circle. That’s right kids, the once vampire-hating leader of the Church of the Sun marks his return as the thing he hated most—a vampire. I’m looking forward to seeing how campy his vampire is going to be. Something tells me that preppy, sweater and khaki-wearing, Steve is going to be a very campy vampire. Plus, it should be interesting to see his dark nature fully exposed now that he isn’t hiding behind the Church. Fun!
Sookie will finally have a better grasp on her powers, what she can do with them and put them to good use. When True Blood began, all we knew was that Sookie was telepathic. In the past couple of seasons, she spent time in the faerie demi-plane and got to know a little better where she really comes from. She also learned that many of the faeries were sweet like the rotten fruit they were serving. It’s high time for Sookie to finally utilize her powers.
Rene was doing some quality haunting last season. He likely isn’t finished with Arlene, Terry and the baby yet. And why would he be? Just because the notorious, serial-killing, vampire-hater is dead, it doesn’t mean he is resting peacefully.
On the personal wish list, I’d like to see Sookie finally make the move from cold-blooded vamps to one very hot-blooded werewolf, Alcide. There has definitely been some chemistry between those two, so it would be nice to see it develop into something!
They will probably be pulling out all the stops for the last season. By bringing back notable characters from previous seasons (with the exception of Maryann the Maenad), season five should be a nice book-end to season one. True Blood returns for the new season, Sunday June 10th.
