Fantasy Flight Games has posted a paid beta rulebook for the Second Edition of Dark Heresy to DriveThruRPG and RPGNow.

According to FFG after 5 years, four additional 40K RPGs and numerous feedback, they want to tweak the game they inherited from Games Workshop’s Black Library imprint.  FFG namely points out streamlined rules, less skill with broader use, integrated vehicle rules and the ability to actually play an Inquisitor. Early feedback is the game reads more like later games such as Only War with a noticeable jump between starting characters and more advanced ones.

Unfortunately the changing of the rules will make most original supplements unusable with Second Edition.  Further, FFG is moving the focus from the Calixis Sector to the Askellon Sector. It’s not sure if this is to allow FFG a bit more freedom as they didn’t create the Calixis Sector or get the game literally closer to FFG’s other 40K games.

You can download the Dark Heresy Second Edition Beta rules from DriveThruRPG and RPGNow for $20, which you can apply to the finished PDF or book.
