Despicable Despicable Me 2
The original Despicable Me is a rather off beat movie that challenges the idea of what a family is. Gru certainly isn’t looking for a family, but realizes nothing in the world matters without having people around that you care for and love you back. By the end of Despicable Me, Gru has three daughters, an evil scientist and his minions as his family. Even his abusive mother acknowledges he did something right for once by adopting and embracing his girls.
Because Despicable Me was very popular and profitable, the world needed a sequel. So where to go story wise with our non-standard family? Why not reform a villain legitimately and have the same “I didn’t realize I needed you” plot from the first film to build a clean traditional family. And that’s the truly despicable thing about Despicable Me 2. The lack lustre main plot about smoking out a dangerous supervillain is disappointing, but the idea in this age that you aren’t a proper family unless you have a mommy and a daddy really renders the first film pointless.
There are lots of families that don’t fit the stereotypical dad, mom, two kids, cat and dog. Many non-stereotypical families do just fine without or even doubling up on one parent. Despicable Me 2 is a slap in the face of non-nuclear families that the original film triumphed. It wasn’t just lazy writing, but dangerous writing that reinforces the belief that only a stereotypical family is a complete family. That is not the reality of a significant amount of people watching the movie.
Regardless of Despicable Me 2‘s box office returns the film is a failure thematically. It shows that Hollywood isn’t just creatively bankrupt, but socially bankrupt as well.http://pokupo.com/2013/07/23/despicable-despicable-me-2/http://pokupo.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/despicableme2-960x540.jpghttp://pokupo.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/despicableme2-160x160.jpgMoviesDespicable Me,Despicable Me 2,epic fail, movies
