Movies coming out this week: Premium Rush, The Apparition, Hit and Run, Samsara, Sleepwalk with Me and Brother.

Premium Rush
Rating: PG-13
Run time: 91 min
Genre(s): Action, Thriller
Director: David Koepp
Stars: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Michael Shannon, Dania Ramirez, Kym Perfetto
Synopsis: In Manhattan, a bike messenger picks up an envelope that attracts the interest of a dirty cop, who pursues the cyclist throughout the city.

The Buzz
A bike courier version of The Transporter?!? Really this movie should scream run away, but with the amount of talent involved in it could just break through its clichéd origins.

The Apparition
Rating: PG-13
Genre(s): Horror, Thriller
Director: Todd Lincoln
Stars: Ashley Greene, Sebastian Stan, Tom Felton, Julianna Guill
Synopsis: A couple are haunted by a supernatural presence that is unleashed during a college experiment.

The Buzz
While Premium Rush seems clichéd but saved by talented personnel, The Apparition is probably just as it seems, an over-budgeted Paranormal rip-off.

Hit and Run
Rating: R
Run time: 100 min
Genre(s): Action, Comedy, Romance
Directors: David Palmer, Dax Shepard
Stars: Dax Shepard, Kristen Bell, Bradley Cooper, Kristin Chenoweth
Synopsis: Former getaway driver Charlie Bronson jeopardizes his Witness Protection Plan identity in order to help his girlfriend get to Los Angeles. The feds and Charlie’s former gang chase them on the road.

The Buzz
Real life couple Shepard and Bell take their show to the big screen. Hard to tell if this will be wildly hilarious or crash and burn. It’s a talented cast and I really hope it’s good just so Kristen Bell can get better parts.

Samsara
Rating: PG-13
Genre(s): Documentary
Director: Ron Fricke
Synopsis: Filmed over a period of five years in twenty-five countries on five continents, and shot on 70mm film, Samsara transports us to the varied worlds of sacred grounds, disaster zones, industrial complexes, and natural wonders.

The Buzz
More magic from the man who brought us Baraka? I certainly hope so.

Sleepwalk with Me
Rating: NR
Run time: 90 min
Genre(s): Comedy
Directors: Mike Birbiglia, Seth Barrish
Stars: Mike Birbiglia, Lauren Ambrose, James Rebhorn, Carol Kane
Synopsis: A burgeoning stand-up comedian struggles with the stress of a stalled career, a stale relationship, and the wild spurts of severe sleepwalking he is desperate to ignore.

The Buzz
A movie based on a a comedian’s one-man show. If you like Birbiglia’s stand up then you’ll probably like this, but if you are unfamiliar with his work it might seem like those Saturday Night Live sketches that get turned into movies.

Brother
Run time: 97 min
Genre(s): Drama, Family, Sport
Director: Marcel Rasquin
Stars: Fernando Moreno, Eliú Armas, Alí Rondon, Beto Benites
Synopsis: Two young men who have been raised as brothers look to their soccer skills as a way of getting out of their slum. While a scout is in town, an act of violence threatens to tear them apart.

The Buzz
Venezuela’s official Oscar submission in the Best Foreign Language category in 2011. If you like football, crime and subtitles then check it out.
