The fallout from the theater massacre in Aurora, Co continues in the pop culture world with Gangster Squad reshooting scenes.

In an effort to try to distance themselves from the theater shooting during, The Dark Knight Rises last month, the studio has made several changes surrounding the Gangster Squad movie. Trailers were pulled, scenes scrapped and the release date pushed back. The original Gangster Squad trailers featured an action sequence with mobsters descending on a theater in Hollywood, Tommy guns blazing. This scene has been cut from the movie completely. Reshoots are scheduled for August 20, 2012.

Set in the 1950s, a small, secret crew of LAPD officers were tasked to take back the city by any means necessary from the notorious gangster, Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn). Gangster Squad chronicles their war. Based on the book “Gangster Squad: Undercover Cops, the Mob, and the Battle for Los Angeles” by Paul Lieberman, it tells the story of two cops, who became obsessed with the Squad’s priority target, Mickey Cohen.

Gangster Squad stars, Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone and Josh Brolin. It was set to be released in October 2012 and has been pushed back to January 11, 2013.
