Fantasy Flight Games will be releasing a Talisman game set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

A Warp rift has erupted near the Antian Sector, and under its baleful influence Chaos infestations and other abhorrent phenomena have surfaced. To face this threat, agents of the Imperium have come forth: Space Marine, Inquisitor, Commissar, Rogue Trader, and more. To succeed, such heroes will need skill and weaponry, courage and faith, and even the assistance of ancient and powerful relics.

Relic is Fantasy Flight Games’ (FFG) version of the classic Games Workshop (GW) board game Talisman translated into the Warhammer 40,000 (40K) universe. Two to four players go forth to raid dungeons of treasures… wait, this is 40K not D&D. Two to four character bravely set forth to defend the Antian Sector from enemies of the Emperor.

The board represents the Antian Sector and players take turns rolling a six-sided die and moving a corresponding amount of spaces clockwise or counter-clockwise. Unlike Talisman which only has one adventure deck to determine allies and obstacles, Relic has three Threat decks. The red, blue and gored spaces correspond to their own decks which focuses on Orks, Tyranids and Eldar respectively. There is a “leveling up” system, corruption cards (that are both positive and negative) and secret mission that bestows powerful gear; all within the Talisman framework.

It would have been awesome if Games Workshop had allowed FFG to produce miniature for the game. It would have assured every 40K RPG player and Imperial 40K player snapped up a copy of the game. Instead we have very nice character busts. So nice it makes you cry that they aren’t full figures. The pictured busts show a Battle Sister, a Guardsman, an Imperial Psyker, a Callidus Assassin and a Commissar. FFG also lists a Ratling Sniper and Ogryn for playable characters. An Ultramarine Captain and Rogue trader are shown on the character cards leaving one one character unknown. Each of the ten characters has its own powers and abilities. Please G-Dub, lets see full figures for these character—even if they aren’t in scale with the wargame minis… especially if they are bigger than the wargame miniatures.

Along with the board, character busts and character cards there are 16 attribute and life dials (for tracking your characters stats), 4 six-sided dice, over 100 token and over 300 cards. FFG recommend players be 14 or older and the total time to play a game with two to four players should be about 3 hours. Relic will have a manufacturers suggested retail price of $59.95 and be available before Christmas 2012.
