Is Beware the Batman A Casualty of Colorado Shooting
Warner Bros. Animation series Beware the Batman is being toned down in the wake of the tragic shooting in Aurora, Colorado. Changes to the shape of gun barrels and the removal of “realistic” situations are being made voluntarily by WB. The last-minute changes to the CGI series will apparently be very costly.
Beware the Batman is a procedural focusing on Batman’s detective skills. WB has already stated the popular villains such as the Joker, the Penguin and the Riddler will NOT appear in the show. Now the show is being overhauled to tone down violence and remove scenes that might be too upsetting in wake of the shooting. If the original idea of the show was a bit of a hard sell then the post shooting changes seem to have doomed any chance of a Batman: The Animated Series level show.
Juxtaposed with this watering down of the Dark Knight is the PG adaptation of Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns on video this fall. With the enthusiastic response of the previous outing of adapting Batman: Year One people are looking forward to Miller’s classic tale. And it looks like it may be the only thing to look forward to this fall if you are a Batman fan.
Beware the Batman will air on Cartoon Network.
