Disney debuted the first trailer for the big budget Wizard of Oz prequel.

Oz: The Great and Powerful has been directed by filmmaker, Sam Raimi (Spider-Man trilogy, The Evil Dead). Raimi mirrored the format of the original 1939 Wizard of Oz fantasy movie with the Kansas prologue in black and white, before transitioning to full, vibrant color Oz. It’s a nice touch that will connect the two.

Based on the novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum, Oz: The Great and Powerful tells the story of how small-time magician Oscar Diggs (James Franco) finds himself hurled into the fantastical Land of Oz. There he must find a way to transform himself into the great and powerful Wizard that people have been expecting.

The movie also stars Mila Kunis, Michelle WIlliams, Rachel Weisz and Zach Braff. And expect an appearance from Ted Raimi. Keep an eye out because you never know what other familiar faces Sam Raimi may have pop up from previous productions.

Oz: The Great and Powerful hits theaters March 2013.
