Bourne Legacy Shakes Things Up
The Bourne franchise will return with a new look.
Matt Damon (Jason Bourne) will not be in the upcoming Bourne movie. Nor will it be about a spy with amnesia.
Writer/Director Tony Gilroy is taking us to the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise based on the Robert Ludlum books. Still in the Bourne universe, Bourne Legacy focuses on new CIA operative, Aaron Cross (Jeremy Renner). His mission has been triggered by the events of the first three Bourne films. That means the movie isn’t a prequel, nor is it a reboot. It’s more like a side-story, continuation or expansion of the Bourne verse.
A couple of differences between Jason Bourne aka David Webb and Aaron Cross are, Cross has no moral conflict, and he knows where he’s from and what the stakes are if he doesn’t achieve his journey.
Edward Norton (Byer), Rachel Weisz (Marta), Stacy Keach (Turso) and Oscar Isaac (#3) join Renner as series newcomers. Whereas, Albert Finney (Dr. Albert Hirsch), Joan Allen (Deputy Director Pam Landy), David Strathairn (Noah Vosen) and Scott Glenn (Ezra Kramer) reprise their roles.
The action, adventure, thriller is due out in August 2012.
