The first ten minutes of Space Battleship Yamato 2199 that originally appeared on the Bandai channel have been posted.

Star Blazers was the show that sucked me down the path of anime. It was a dubbed version of Space Cruiser Yamato that was a faithful dub and not “dumbed down for children”. It is a milestone in anime and marching bands on both sides of the Pacific often play its theme at events.

Last year there was a live action movie released that followed the Iscandar plot line. Now Xebec has produced an updated version that promises all the great story of the original show, but with all the tools of of today. This new 26 episode remake is such a big deal in Japan that the first two episodes will be released theatrically as a 50 minute movie (followed by 6 other “movies”) and be made available on Blu-ray shortly after.

The first ten minutes that originally appeared on the Bandai channel in Japan is up and it’s in raw Japanese, but it’s nice to see a classic get some love today.
