A new website launched for the anime prequel of BioWare’s Mass Effect 3 as info from SXSW emerges.

Funimation has launched the website for BioWare’s Mass Effect 3 anime prequel. The site is very sparse and dominated with a large 10 second title video. Below the video it says that Production IG (Ghost in the Shell, Halo Legends) will be handling the animation. The movie will focus on Alliance Marine James Vega’s early career protecting civilians from a ruthless invasion without a clear purpose.

Elsewhere at SXSW, Justin Rojas of Funimation illuminated more details. The anime movie will come out in late 2012 and will be a “traditional” 2D anime. (This is probably why Production IG is doing it rather than T.O Entertainment who is doing the 3D CG anime for Dragon Age.) The early art looks very cool. Check out of the video below.
