Out this week: Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengence, This Means War, Undefeated and The Secret World of Arrietty.

Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance
Rating: PG-13
Runtime: 95 min
Genre(s): Action, Fantasy, Thriller
Directors: Mark Neveldine & Brian Taylor
Stars: Nicolas Cage, Ciarán Hinds, Idris Elba, Violante Placido

The Buzz
As Johnny Blaze hides out in Eastern Europe, he is called upon to stop the devil, who is trying to take human form. From the people who brought you Crank and starring one of the lamest superheroes… Remember when Nicolas Cage was in good movies… either do I.

This Means War
Rating: R
Runtime: 98 min
Genre(s): Action, Comedy, Romance
Director: McG
Stars: Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine, Tom Hardy, Til Schweiger

The Buzz
Two top CIA operatives wage an epic battle against one another after they discover they are dating the same woman. McG, Witherspoon, Pine and Hardy. Need another incentive than how about the screenwriter of the first Sherlock Holmes movie? If these people can’t make a mildly appealing love triangle movie then Hollywood should just give up. See what I did there.

Undefeated
Rating: NR
Runtime: 113 min
Genre(s): Documentary
Directors: Daniel Lindsay & T.J. Martin
Stars: Bill Courtney, O.C. Brown, Montrail ‘Money’ Brown, Chavis Daniels

The Buzz
A documentary on an underdog football team who look to reverse their fortunes with coach Bill Courtney. Not sure on this one, I’d have a copy of Friday Night Lights near by in case this documentary doesn’t deliver on the fourth quarter.

The Secret World of Arrietty
Rating: G
Runtime: 94 min
Genre(s): Animation, Adventure, Family, Fantasy
Director: Hiromasa Yonebayashi
Stars: Bridgit Mendler, Amy Poehler, Will Arnett, Saoirse Ronan

The Buzz
The Clock family are four-inch-tall people who live anonymously in another family’s residence, borrowing simple items to make their home. Life changes for the Clocks when their daughter, Arrietty, is discovered. Is this one of the last Studio Ghibli’s films? Might be since they have said their success depends on US box office receipts. And that’s going to be hard when other studios are churning out 2-3 CGI movies every year. There’s no demand for fine crystal at a Guns’n’Roses concert.
