Not only is 2012 the end of this cycle in the Mayan calendar, but it is sizzling with new movie releases of tough women with a sexy wardrobe. I’m not talking about the black cocktail dresses, high heels and fancy purses. No, this year sexy is latex, catsuits, armour and accessories including bows, guns and swords. A little bit of Vivienne Westwood via Heckler & Koch.

Kicking off this year is the poster child for latex, the ever alluring Kate Beckinsale in Underworld: Awakening (January 20, 2012). Kate straps on the pleather for her third Underworld film, not bad for a girl the studios said would never be in an action movie. The down side is that while the first Underworld was good, the second was abysmal. The third movie was pretty good, but she wasn’t in that one… her doppleganger Rhona Mitra was. And even though most of the original crew is nowhere to be seen, we still have 90 minutes with Kate in a corsetted catsuit giving us all kinds of awesome violence, fangs, piercing blue eyes and sheer sex appeal. Mute the sound and this never gets old.

Red, blonde or brunette Jennifer Lawrence kicks ass! We have seen her brave a fiery red do and blue make up as Raven Darkhome in X-Men: First Class and in Winter’s Bone she had stunning blonde locks. Back again as a brunette, this Oscar nominee plays the strong-willed heroine in The Hunger Games (March 23, 2012). Jennifer Lawrence goes from tomboy to “Hello boys”. I particularly love her natural beauty and look of innocence set outdoors wearing black jacket, t-shirt, combat boots only to accessorize with a bow, fabulous. I’m ditching my purse for a crossbow this season.

The other poster child for a leather second skin is Scarlett Johansson in Joss Whedon’s The Avengers (May 4, 2012). This Black Widow will stun you in her black catsuit and striking red locks. She gets two thumbs up despite not saying a word in any of the trailers, but at least she could hold her own with Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man 2.

Kristen Stewart must be doing cartwheels now that Twilight is behind her. She couldn’t have chosen a better role than the step-daughter of the wicked queen in Snow White and the Huntsman (June 1, 2012). Cast along an Academy Award winning actress and not too hard on the eyes Charlize Theron, Kristen steps up her game in this epic movie of a fairy tale with a twist. Kirsten has hair that is black as night, wears armor and wielding a long sword may truly be the fairest of them all.

Christopher Nolan may put together great stories on film, but what is up with his female casting… specifically in the Batman franchise. Dark Knight Rises (July 20, 2012) will be epic, but Anne Hathaway as Catwoman is… umm, odd. Add to that is the few pictures of her costume seem to place her closer to Adam West than to Christian Bale. Batman wears 21st century combat armor and Selina Kyle get’s Julie Newmar’s cast-offs? For this reason alone, Anne is not the poster child for latex or leather or PVC or whatever that nasty ‘60s fabric is. Come on guys she’s a notorious cat-burglar and really sexy. The Dark Knight does not wear Prada.

Thank you ladies for showing girls around the world that it’s cool to be smart, talented and fierce; but it’s also okay to be sexy while showing the boys how it’s done.
