The Debt
Rated: R

Format: AC-3, DTS Surround Sound, Dubbed, Subtitled, Widescreen
Language: English
Aspect Ratio: 2.40:1
Number of discs: 1
Studio: Miramax Films
Run Time: 113 minutes

The Buzz:
An international espionage thriller that takes place in two different times (1966 and the present) with two sets of casts. Most thought it was ambitious to have a thriller span two eras and jump between them and most felt it worked. There are some issues with casting of the younger and older characters and details are lost in the time shift, but solid acting and direction seem enough to make up for the little things that don’t work.

The Hangover Part II
Rated: R
Genre(s): Comedy
Director: Todd Phillips
Stars: Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis
Format: Widescreen
Language: English
Aspect Ratio: 1.77:1
Number of discs: 3
Studio: Warner Bros. Pictures
Run Time: 102 minutes

The Buzz:
This time around it’s Stu’s wedding in Thailand. Yes, he’s having his wedding in a country known for sex tourism. Basically the sequel is a copy of the first film transported to Thailand and is meaner and darker than the somewhat funny and warm original.

Life, Above All
Rated: PG-13
Genre(s): Art House & International, Drama
Director: Oliver Schmitz
Stars: Khomotso Manyaka, Keaobaka Makanyane, Lerato Mvelase, Harriet Lenabe, Aubrey Poolo
Format: AC-3, Color, Dolby, Subtitled, Widescreen
Aspect Ratio: 2.35:1
Number of discs: 2
Studio: Sony Pictures Home Entertainment
Run Time: 100 minutes

The Buzz:
The sad tale of the ostracism of persons with AIDS in South Africa. Not as bleak as it might sound and a stunning break out performance by new comers Khomotsu Manyaka might make it watchable. The ending seems a bit tacked on and incongruous to the rest of the film.

Cowboys & Aliens
Rated: PG-13
Genre(s): Western, Science Fiction
Director: Jon Favreau
Stars: Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Abigail Spencer, Buck Taylor, Olivia Wilde
Format: AC-3, Color, Dolby, DTS Surround Sound, Dubbed, Subtitled, Widescreen
Language: English
Aspect Ratio: 2.40:1
Number of discs: 1
Studio: Universal Pictures
Run Time: 119 minutes

The Buzz:
An amnesic wanders into a town that doesn’t take kindly to strangers just before things do get stranger. Favreau takes a mediocre script and does it by numbers. It’s played serious rather than Will Smith’s Wild Wild West and when you are genre-bending between westerns and sci-fi, you can’t leave anything to go wrong and yet so little goes right in this film.

The Help
Rated: PG-13
Genre(s): Drama
Director: Tate Taylor
Stars: Emma Stone, Bryce Dallas Howard
Format: Color, Subtitled, Widescreen
Language: English
Aspect Ratio: 1.85:1
Number of discs: 3
Studio: Walt Disney Studios
Run Time: 146 minutes

The Buzz:
Three women in the ‘60s break societal norms to work on a writing project together. A PG-13 movie that is trying to deal with Restricted ideas and abuses as many stereotypes as it’s supposed to break. A bit of a tear-jerker the cast and especially Viola Davis push this movie above what it really should be, an after school special.

Mr. Popper’s Penguins
Rated: PG
Genre(s): Comedy, Family
Director: Mark Waters
Stars: Jim Carrey, Carla Gugino
Format: AC-3, Color, Dolby, Dubbed, Subtitled, Widescreen
Language: English
Aspect Ratio: 1.85:1
Number of discs: 3
Studio: Twentieth Century Fox
Run Time: 94 minutes

The Buzz:
Based on the classic book of the same name of a self-absorbed businessman who inherits some penguins and help him re-exam his life. Jim Carrey, family movie, need I say more. OK, I will. Carrey takes a back seat to the penguins, chews up scenery and basically is Jim Carrey in a very forgettable movie.
