The Vampire Diaries – Episode 3.07: Ghost World
Something went horribly wrong after Bonnie (Kat Graham) sent Vicki (Kayla Ewell) back, leaving the door wide open for the ghosts to get a foothold on the physical realm. The balance is still upset from Bonnie bringing Jeremy (Steven R. McQueen) back, so the powerful witch ghost is able to anchor onto the magic-infused pendant and prop open the door to the other world.
The ghosts set free aren’t just friendly neighborhood ones like Anna (Malese Jow), either. There’s also Mason Lockwood (Taylor Kinney) and all the other vampire ghosts that were locked in the tomb and killed by members of the founding families. That means they have an agenda and since they are able to manifest physically, they can do a lot of damage.
The vampire ghosts from the tomb look for as many members of the founding families as they can find during the Illumination Night celebrations and they aim to maim, torture and kill.
Mason seeks revenge on Damon (Ian Somerhalder) by tripping him, tossing him across the room, removing his ring, chaining him to a chair and torturing him. Then he moves on to burning him by opening the curtains and letting the sun shine in. Damon figures out it is Mason somehow torturing him, after Stefan (Paul Wesley) denies it was him (with a scoff that said such things are beneath him).
After Mason finishes playtime aka torturing Damon, he alludes to the fact that he knows how to kill an original vampire. That is something that he would love to see happen, because he can’t stand seeing Tyler (Michael Trevino) as Klaus’s (Joseph Morgan) hybrid bitch. He interrupts Damon having a drink with Alaric (Matthew Davis) to tell him to meet him at the Lockwood property alone.
Bonnie gets a little help from Grams (Jasmine Guy) (yay Grams!), who explains that Bonnie needs to restore the balance and close the door by destroying the pendant. The only problem is that they need to find it. I thought Kathryn (Nina Dobrev) still had the necklace and in that case they would have been hooped. However, at some she point gave it back to Damon and he stashed it. So Caroline (Candice Accola) and Bonnie tear apart his room and are unable to find it.
Lexi (Arielle Kebbel) returns to help Elena deal with Stefan. He is worse than she has ever seen before, but she is still confident she can sort him out. She pulls out a few tricks to help strip away the layers of evil built up by Klaus. There is progress, but the problem is that she needs time. That is something that she doesn’t have a lot of, since the hunt is on for the pendant.
Mason and Damon smash through an old wall under the Lockwood property and trek through some caverns. During the search, Damon gets skewered by stake traps. It looks like they are also coated with Vervain so Mason has to free him. As they continue further, Damon is unable to enter without being invited. That means Mason has to go the rest of the way alone.
As the entire town is in chaos, Elena confronts Anna, gets her to return the necklace (that she stole from Damon’s room) to Jeremy and set him free. She reluctantly does and is reunited with her mother, Pearl (Kelly Hu).
Jeremy takes the necklace to Bonnie, who pitches it into the fire. There is a lot of popping and fireworks, but the pendant itself is still in one piece. The door is closed and all the spirits disappear. There is resolution with Anna and Grams, but Lexi and Mason are torn away before they can complete their respective missions.
It’s now up to Damon to figure out what it is Mason was trying to show him. Since he is unable to go any further, he recruits Alaric. Alaric is still mad at him, but agrees to help. He finds some sort of hieroglyphic symbols on the walls of the cavern and has no idea what they actually mean.
Elena decides there is still hope for Stefan, so she refuses to give up on him. She leaves him chained to a chair, locked up in another dungeon. Seriously, how many dungeons does this town have anyway? I can’t help but wonder what the founders had in mind when they built, Mystic Falls.
I find it interesting that Rebekah (Claire Holt) is nowhere to be found during the ghost infestation. As she was house crashing at the Salvatore’s, I expected to see her at least once during this episode. Maybe once Damon and Alaric figure out what all the symbols mean, they’ll test it out on her. Might be a shame if they do, as she is mostly harmless — well aside from the fact that she wants Carolyn’s life.http://pokupo.com/2011/10/30/the-vampire-diaries-episode-3-07-ghost-world/TVCW,The Vampire Diaries
